Italian shoe
Old Italian boot used as a slipper in war barracks dug into rocks.
A very interesting piece that demonstrates how soldiers on both sides adapted to high-altitude life.
This shoe probably broke during the long months at the front or, more sadly, it belonged to a dead comrade.
It was patched and sewn up with other pieces of leather and various fabrics; the ankle strap was also cut off entirely to make it more comfortable, like a slipper.
