German Gummimaske
This Gummimaske found on Monte Grappa was German-made but adopted also by the Austrians. It was in fact one of the best in circulation at that time, more effective than the Italian ones and like the British ones (which had the 1917 small box respirator but were very bulky).
With it the replaceable filter was born, containing granular pumice soaked in potash, urotropine and activated charcoal.
This mask covered the entire face and was made of rubber (later produce in leather due to a shortage of rubber). It was impermeable to gases and protected also the eyes, thanks to two acetyl cellulose lenses encircled by metal rings.
